This is a picture of me aged six (click to enlarge) When I was six I visited Hunwick with my Grandmother. I didn't think much of it and I saw a lad called Edmo sagging off school. This would be 1958. the steam trains were running back then

50 year celebrations.

On monday the 30th of September the school was closed and an open day was held to commemorate the opening of the school.
Programme of events for the day included :
Opening Ceremony by Lady Steele of Wolsingham :- 2-00pm.
Police Dog Display :- 2-30pm.
Fashion Show modelled by Hunwick School girls :- 3-00pm.
Gymnastic Display showing how gymnastics has developed over the past 50 years :- 3-30pm.
During the afternoon there were additional displays from :-
The Army.
The Royal Air Force.
Durham County Fire Service.
The Red cross.
Side shows included :-
Hoopla, Treasure trove, Darts,Peas in a jar, Cover a penny in a bucket, Electric bell, Knock the cans down & Pegs on a line.
During the afternoon Vinovium School Brass Band played a selection of music on the school field.
